Cranberry Orange Scones Recipe

These scones super flavorful and not too sweet. They will fill your whole home with a beautiful orange scent. They make a great breakfast item or a delicious afternoon snack.

I just started making scones, and was extremely surprised at how quick and easy they are to make. If you can make a biscuit, you can definitely make these. Scones might even be easier because there’s no biscuit cutter needed. Just cut your scone dough like a pizza, and then place dough slices on a baking sheet.

Yield: Serves 4

Cranberry Orange Scones

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup very cold butter, cut in pats
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dried cranberries

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°. Combine flour and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix well. Add orange zest and butter. Using a pastry knife, incorporate the butter in the flour until it is grainy.
  2. Add egg, milk, vanilla extract and cranberries. Mix until just combined. Use hands to finish incorporating flour into the dough.
  3. Form a disc with the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into diamond shapes.
  4. Transfer scones to a parchment or nonstick surface on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
