Here is an easy recipe for fast boneless country ribs. Country style ribs aren’t actually ribs at all, but a cut of pork between the ribs and shoulder. They are boneless, low in fat, and tender. They are closer in relation to a pork chop, but are cut in strips. They make perfect, no mess, no fuss “mock ribs” that are easy enough for a fast weeknight meal. You can also make them on the grill, instead of baking them in the oven.
For these ribs, I made an easy Jack Daniel’s barbecue sauce. This sauce is nice and tangy, without being too sweet or too spicy. I added grated garlic and onion to the sauce for extra flavor. To get the most flavor from my onion, I grated it from the root end, where the onion is the juiciest. I also added my favorite prepared sauce, Country Bob’s all purpose sauce. You could also use any steak sauce in place of this ingredient. I really like Country Bob’s though because of the complexity of flavors in the sauce. I was going to ask my husband if he liked this barbecue sauce, but after seeing him polish off the third rib without letting a single drop of barbecue sauce go to waste, I would say he liked it.
Yield: Serves 4
Country Style Ribs with Jack Daniel's Barbecue Sauce
Ingredients:
- 2 - 3 lbs. Country style ribs
- 2 tablespoons Southern Spice Blend or other Southern/Cajun spice blend
Sauce:
- 1 14.5 oz can of tomato sauce
- 3/4 - 1 cup Jack Daniel's whiskey
- 1/2 cup Country Bob's all purpose sauce or another steak sauce
- 2 tablespoons grated onion, from the root end of the onion
- 2 cloves grated garlic
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Rub seasoning on pork and place pork on a rack on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered for 25 -30 minutes.
- While pork is cooking, add ingredients for sauce to a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Let the sauce reduce until it has thickened and the alcohol has cooked off. Sauce will become much sweeter.
- Baste pork with barbecue sauce and continue to cook until the ribs have reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
